About Dr. Eric W. Lothes
Dr. Lothes
Dr. Lothes received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio. He received his medical degree from The Medical College of Ohio and completed his ophthalmology residency at The Ohio State University Hospital. He is a board certified general ophthalmologist with a special interest in oculoplastics. Dr. Lothes is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and began practicing in central Ohio in 1990. In addition, he serves as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology for Ohio University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Lothes was born in Zanesville, Ohio. Growing up he enjoyed playing high school and college football. At an early age, he began working at his father’s optical factory and became interested in the human eye and how it functions. By third grade, he knew he wanted to be a physician and ophthalmology was the path he would follow. Dr. Lothes lives in southern Delaware County with his wife, Julie. They have four children—Kristen, Natalie, Gretchen, and Mitchell—and six grandchildren. His hobbies include tennis and travel and working his apple orchard.

Kathy Nissenbaum, MA
Kathy has been working with Dr. Lothes since the office opened in 2005. She is responsible for assisting Dr. Lothes in all aspects of patient care and enjoys getting to know each patient. She has lived in Powell with her husband for 20 years after moving from the East coast. They have two grown daughters. Kathy enjoys hiking, kayaking, volunteering, and gardening.
Sharon H.
Sharon has been with Liberty Ophthalmology for over 10 years as one of our friendly front desk team. She and her husband live in Lewis Center where they raised their three Olentangy High School graduates. Sharon enjoys crocheting, traveling, boating, and hiking the Metro parks.
Beth R.
Beth joined the Liberty Ophthalmology family in 2018. She brings with her a surgical technology background. When she’s not assisting patients in the office, Beth enjoys watching her son's sporting events and spending time with her husband, children, and two dogs.
