Dr. Eric W. Lothes, MD, Liberty Ophthalmology
Background

Dr. Lothes is a board-certified general ophthalmologist with a special interest in oculoplastics. He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, followed by his medical degree from The Medical College of Ohio. He completed his ophthalmology residency at The Ohio State University Hospital and has been caring for patients in central Ohio since 1990. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Lothes also serves as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Ohio University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Born in Zanesville, Ohio, Dr. Lothes moved to Worthington in early childhood and later graduated from Worthington High School, where he excelled academically and on the football field. His interest in ophthalmology began early—while working at his father’s optical factory, he became fascinated by the human eye and its intricate function. By third grade, he knew he wanted to become a physician, and ophthalmology quickly became his calling.

Dr. Lothes lives in Sunbury with his wife, Julie. They have four children—Kristen, Natalie, Gretchen, and Mitchell—and several grandchildren. Outside of medicine, he enjoys tennis, traveling, and tending to his apple orchard.
